KENWOOD KDC-3090R CD PLAYER

Basicly I wanted  to upgrade the poor sound quality I've found when taking delivery of my disco, cause all I had was 2 small speakers at the front doors and just an empty and broken  'speaker - box' attached to the rear tail gate door;  so I thought of upgrading the front speakers and adding another pair at the back. Furthermore it was the time to replace the original  fm radio / casette by a CD player.

I started asking amongst my friends and enquiring some information about CD players, but the main issue was that I wanted a unit that  can be played on every road condition.(just to remind you that I am in MALTA and the roads are very bad) so this was very important.

Finally I decided on a KENWOOD KDC-3090R.
It has an RDS and Traffic information system, and 45 watts X 4 power.  I've had it for three years now and I never had any problems.
The FM reception is brilliant especially when used with a power 'glass-fix' aerial.

Installation of the unit was very straightforward; all  I needed was a special adapter/plug; to convert from european to japanese (for the Kenwood) system, and this way the install would remain very neat.

Speaker Upgrade
For better sound quality I manage to fit slightly bigger speakers at the front doors, and also upgraded them to a 3-way system and of more wattage. Furthermore I added 2 large 3-way speakers at the back and installed them onto the 'home brew' parcel shelf, the result is a massive bass reflex system with an amazing sound.

POWER ARIEL LOCATION

New Ariel install.
Since I wanted to use the hole in the front mudguard (where the original FM ariel was mounted) to mount the CB antenna, I opted for a windscrean power ariel. This antenna is fixed to the inner windscrean just behind the rear view mirror by the supplied sticky pad; it also requires +ve 12V and an earth (chasis) connection. Both these connections can be taken from the overhead interior lighting, as can be seen from the photo. Reception is far more better than  the original ariel.
