RIGID PARCEL SHELF WITH REAR SPEAKER INSTALLATION.

the 'useless' ROLLER BLIND !

Here are some pictures of the 'parcel shelf' which I managed to construct. I always wanted to replace the original load space 'roller blind' supplied with the disco, with one which is of a rigid construction. The original blind is only good to cover things at the back and no more. Basically all I wanted was a rigid shelf that I can load other stuff on top, apart from the fact that I had the intension to install the rear speakers on it.

I've constructed it in two parts; a 'U' shape assembly which is fixed and bolted to the side trim, and the other section which is foldable is attached with a 'piano hinge'.  Two small sliding locks hold the foldable section in place.

Construction is made from of 3 ply wood, and then it is covered with grey material to match the colour of all the trimming interior of my disco. The material is streched around with the  wood and then stapled at the back.

After installing this shelf I've noticed that the original interior light placed at the right hand side was not sufficient enough to light the whole load space area, so I decided to add a couple of small lights. I have wired these two vanity lights to switch on from a seperate switch and not together with the original interior light. In fact I've installed this small switch on top of the existing interior light, as can be seen from the photos.
