DISCOVERY 1989 - 1998
The Discovery was designed to fill the large gap between the utility Defender model and the
luxurious Range Rover. In fact it did extremely well and proved to be very popular as a family car, caravan tow car, and working
vehicle amongst many other uses. The only flop in my opinion is the 2.0 Mpi engine, which is directly from a rover car and
is unsuitable or shall we say under powered for a vehicle of this weight. It is definately useless for off-road cause it lacks
the low - down torque. But the TDI diesel engines and the V8 petrol engines are simply SUPERB.
Six types of engines where introduced to the Discovery:
- 2.0 Mpi petrol, 134bhp
- 3.5 V8 petrol, 144bhp
- 3.5 V8 petrol Injection, 165 bhp
- 3.9 V8 petrol, 182 bhp
- 2.5 200 tdi diesel, 111bhp
- 2.5 300 tdi diesel, 111bhp
